We all know our pregnancy is divided into three trimesters but for a woman there is the fourth one too, which starts just right after the birth of the baby. This phase is also very challenging for the mother as she’s going through many physical, mental and hormonal changes. Not only this, the newly turned mother is now responsible for another little angel plus dealing with her own health too. From a weak body to ensuring proper breastfeeding to the baby, the mother had to do it all by herself. These tasks are challenging and so a woman needs postpartum support to overcome this phase of her life. You may also have heard the word baby blues which also refers to postpartum depression which many mothers face after giving birth to their child.
Giving birth to a child is a magical experience but brings many challenges for a mother that could be a daunting task for a woman. Initially everything looks fine and nice as everyone is around you but once everyone gets busy in their own life, many parents feel lack of support as they face sleepless nights, babies crying anytime, asking for milk, changing diapers or giving them a bath, all of which is not an easy task at all. This fourth trimester is the most isolating period for many women, resulting in depression and so they need postpartum support and in worse cases mental health therapy is suggested, to overcome this phase. You need support from your partner, family and friends to stay calm and emotionally stable too.
There are many ways by which you can improve your situation of depression, baby blues and stabilize your mental health. You can incorporate them in your daily life by taking some time out of you. Little tips and tricks could help you immensely in improving your condition. Some are listed below.
Deep meditation is a mindfulness therapy that helps your mind and soul to relax and calm down in a peaceful manner where you can get relief from endless thoughts and queries that are constantly coming in your mind and making you restless. The deeper you go in your meditation, the more you can better understand yourself and make better decisions. Mindfulness practices are of great help as they help in elevating mood, help you sleep better, improves your decision making power, support clear thinking and many more.
The most important and easy thing to incorporate while starting any of the meditation techniques is to focus on your breaths. Vacuum is basically breathing deep as much as you can. Deep breathing is a powerful tool that can help you get into deep medication without consuming a lot of your time and space. You can do this activity anywhere, while driving, on your office seat, anywhere, just a few seconds and minutes and you’re done with it. Breathing in and breathing out is the best gift you can give to your soul and mind.
This 4-7-8 is very easy yet very effective. Once you understand its technique it would rather become your daily habit just because of its positive outcome. Advanced meditation technique and my personal favorite too because it helps in many problem areas of your life. It aids in regaining yourself together while you’re lost, confused or even having issues with sleep and concentration. In this technique you need to take a deep breath while closing your eyes, do this in 4 seconds, then try to hold your breaths for up to 7 seconds, and then slowly release your breaths in 8 seconds. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times or as you feel doing it.
Research and several observations have noticed that a good match between a client and a therapist could result in a better outcome in baby blues. This is because if a patient or client is relaxed and open to his/her therapist will be able to express his/her inner feelings, problems and fears more openly. When a therapist is able to understand the problem of the patient, he could then be able to recommend any treatment or even diagnose the problem. Sometimes only a few sessions of conversations make the patient feel better, but sometimes medicine is also required to recover fully with some meditation and exercises.
mothers are now not only encountering their health issues but have to also look after a baby who needs a mothers full time attention with breast feed any time even middle of the night too. These moms need postpartum support for themselves to overcome these anxiety and stress and look at things in a positive manner.
