Premier League fixtures: A season of surprises
Now that the Premier League is well underway, it's time to take a look at some of the most surprising fixtures we've seen so far.
One of the biggest surprises has been the form of Manchester United. After a dismal season last year, many people expected them to struggle again this campaign. However, under new manager Erik ten Hag, they have been in excellent form, winning their first four games and playing some of the most attractive football in the league.
Another surprise has been the form of Arsenal. After years of underachieving, they have started the season with five wins from five and look like genuine title contenders. Mikel Arteta has done a great job in building a young and hungry team, and they will be hoping to continue their good form throughout the season.
At the other end of the table, there have been a few surprises too. Everton, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, have started the new campaign with five defeats from five. They look like they could be in for another long and difficult season.
Another team who have struggled is West Ham. After finishing seventh last season, they were expected to challenge for a European place this year. However, they have won just one of their first five games and look like they could be in for a disappointing season.
Of course, it's still early days in the Premier League season and there's plenty of time for things to change. However, the first few weeks have thrown up some surprising results and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
Here are some of the most surprising fixtures we've seen so far:
- Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
- Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham
- Everton 0-5 Brighton
- West Ham 0-2 Brentford
