What is process optimisation also known as process Optimisation or PO? Process Optimisation is the process to improve the operation in any area of business by reducing costs and constraints. So, if you are facing setbacks in any area of work you will optimize that area to improve productivity and reduce friction. If you are facing constant complaints from customers, staff members, vendors, or any other business associates then you know that you have a problem in that area and need to improve its functioning. Let’s say your customers have to wait long until they can get their products and they are complaining about it, then process Optimisation will be a process to figure what is causing the delay, then finding a solution to speed up the delivery, implement it, and if it works ok then automating it.
However, process Optimisation can also be applied to get an advantage over your customers or to meet increasing demands. Amazon is a perfect example of this. They optimized the speed at which they delivered products to their customers and made it really easy for them to return the products. They had to build delivery systems which is where they basically optimised and as a result, they dominated the market.
The current Covid crisis in India was another example of process optimisations. Hospitals all over were running out of oxygen so they had to build new oxygen plants and delivery system to increase the capacity. These are just simple and big examples. However, Optimisation can be done on a much smaller level. Let’s say you find it is getting harder for your employees to show up at a meeting and as a result, there are delays, you can switch to online meetings which will save them from commuting and things can work smoothly.
