Public holidays 2025
All good things must come to an end, but that doesn't mean we can't have some fun along the way! In 2025, we'll be having 10 public holidays in the Netherlands, so mark your calendars and get ready to make the most of it.
The first public holiday of the year will be New Year's Day, which falls on a Wednesday. This is always a great day to relax and reflect on the year gone by, and to look forward to the year ahead. January 18th will be Goede Vrijdag (Good Friday), a somber day to reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
April 20th will be Koningsdag (King's Day), a national holiday where we celebrate the King's birthday. This is a great day to get out and enjoy the spring weather, and to have a party with friends and family.
- May 5th will be Liberation Day, a day to remember the liberation of the Netherlands from Nazi occupation in 1945.
May 26th will be Hemelvaartsdag (Ascension Day), a Christian holiday that commemorates the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven.
June 9th will be Pinksteren (Whit Monday), a Christian holiday that celebrates the Holy Spirit coming to the apostles.
June 24th will be Sint-Jansdag (Midsummer Day), a pagan holiday that celebrates the summer solstice.
August 15th will be Maria Hemelvaart (Assumption Day), a Christian holiday that celebrates the assumption of the Virgin Mary into heaven.
November 17th will be Sint-Maartensdag (St. Martin's Day), a Christian holiday that celebrates the life of St. Martin of Tours.
December 25th will be Kerstmis (Christmas Day), a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.
Whew, that was a lot of holidays! I hope you enjoy them all, and have a great year in 2025.
