Purdue vs Oregon State: A Tale of Missed Chances

The Boilermakers fail to capitalize on early opportunities in a disappointing loss to the Beavers
West Lafayette, Ind. - The Purdue Boilermakers (1-2) suffered a disappointing loss to the Oregon State Beavers (3-0) on Saturday night, falling 38-21 at Reser Stadium. The Boilermakers had a chance to take control of the game early, but they failed to convert on several scoring opportunities.
Purdue's offense started strong, driving the ball into Oregon State territory on their first two possessions. However, they were unable to find the end zone, settling for field goals on both drives. The Boilermakers also missed a field goal and turned the ball over on downs in the first half.
The Beavers, meanwhile, took advantage of their opportunities. They scored touchdowns on their first two possessions, and they added a field goal before halftime to take a 17-6 lead.
In the second half, the Boilermakers finally got on the board with a touchdown pass from Aidan O'Connell to TJ Sheffield. However, the Beavers answered right back with a touchdown of their own. Purdue added another touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late.
The Boilermakers' offense struggled throughout the game, totaling just 296 yards of offense. O'Connell was 20-of-34 passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw an interception.
Defensively, the Boilermakers were unable to stop the Beavers' running game. Oregon State rushed for 273 yards, led by Jam Griffin's 137 yards and a touchdown.
Purdue will look to rebound next week when they host the Indiana State Sycamores.
