Born Miguel Ángel López Díaz on January 8, 1958, in Tijuana, Mexico, Rey Mysterio Sr. began his wrestling career in the early 1970s. He quickly gained a reputation for his high-flying style and innovative moves, earning the nickname "The Master of the 619."
Throughout his career, Mysterio Sr. wrestled for various promotions, including Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He won numerous championships, including the AAA World Heavyweight Championship, the WCW Cruiserweight Championship, and the ECW World Heavyweight Championship.
In addition to his in-ring accomplishments, Mysterio Sr. was also known for his mentorship and training of young wrestlers. His nephew, Rey Mysterio Jr., became one of the most successful wrestlers in WWE history, following in the footsteps of his uncle.
