Ricky Stuart
Ricky Stuart is a former Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach. He played for the Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters, and represented Australia and New South Wales. He is the current coach of the Raiders.
Stuart was born in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, in 1967. He began playing rugby league at a young age, and was selected to represent Australia at the under-18 level. In 1986, he made his first-grade debut for the Raiders. He quickly became a key player for the Raiders, and helped them to win the premiership in 1989 and 1990.
In 1992, Stuart moved to the Roosters. He spent three seasons with the Roosters, and helped them to win the premiership in 1993. In 1995, he returned to the Raiders. He played for the Raiders for another four seasons, and helped them to win the premiership in 1994.
Stuart retired from playing in 1999. He began coaching in 2002, and has coached the Raiders, Cronulla Sharks, and Parramatta Eels. He has also been an assistant coach for the New South Wales State of Origin team.
Stuart is considered to be one of the greatest rugby league players of all time. He was inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame in 2005. He is also a member of the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Team of the Century.
One of the most memorable moments of Stuart's career came in the 1990 Grand Final. The Raiders were playing against the Penrith Panthers, and the game was tied with just minutes remaining. Stuart scored a try to give the Raiders a 19-14 lead. The Panthers scored a try in the final minute to tie the game, but Stuart kicked a field goal to win the game 21-19.
Stuart's career was not without controversy. In 1994, he was involved in a fight with Roosters player Mark Carroll. Stuart was suspended for four matches. In 2002, he was fined $10,000 for making a derogatory comment about a referee.
Despite the controversy, Stuart is still considered to be one of the most respected figures in rugby league. He is known for his passion for the game, and his commitment to his players. He is also known for his dry wit and his ability to make people laugh.
