Rivers State local government election

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced the postponement of the local government election earlier scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2022.

The postponement was announced in a statement signed by the RSIEC Chairman, Justice George Omereji (rtd), and made available to newsmen on Saturday morning.

According to the statement, the postponement was due to "unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the commission."

The statement, however, did not give a new date for the election, saying that it would be announced "in due course."

The postponement of the election has been greeted with mixed reactions from stakeholders in the state.

Some have expressed disappointment over the development, while others have welcomed it, saying that it would give them more time to prepare for the election.

The RSIEC has urged all stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding, and to await further announcements from the commission.

The commission has also assured that it is committed to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
