Roderic O'Gorman




Roderic O'Gorman (born 1 August 1974) is an Irish politician who has served as Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth since July 2020. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin West constituency since 2016. O'Gorman is a member of the Green Party.
Early life and education
O'Gorman was born in Dublin in 1974. He is the son of Patrick O'Gorman, a former Irish diplomat, and Mary O'Gorman, a teacher. He was educated at Gonzaga College in Dublin and Trinity College Dublin, where he studied political science and history.
Political career
O'Gorman became involved in politics while studying at Trinity College Dublin. He was elected to the college's Students' Union as a member of the Green Party. He served as President of the Students' Union from 1997 to 1998.
After graduating from Trinity College Dublin, O'Gorman worked as a policy adviser to the Green Party. He was elected to Dublin City Council in 2004. He served as Lord Mayor of Dublin from 2011 to 2012.
O'Gorman was elected to the Dáil Éireann in 2016. He served as Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People from June 2020 to July 2020. He is the first openly gay cabinet minister in Ireland.
Personal life
O'Gorman is married to Chris O'Neill. They have one daughter. O'Gorman is a keen sportsman and enjoys playing Gaelic football, soccer, and tennis. He is also a fan of music and theatre.
