Ron Ellis




Ron Ellis is a former American football player, coach, and general manager. He was a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL) from 1968 to 1975. Ellis was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
Ellis grew up in Los Angeles and played high school football at Crenshaw High School. He starred in college at the University of Southern California (USC), and was a two-time All-American and the 1967 Heisman Trophy runner-up. Ellis was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 1968 NFL Draft.
Ellis made an immediate impact on the Steelers, starting all 14 games at wide receiver as a rookie. He led the NFL in receiving touchdowns (12) and finished second in the league in receiving yards (1,203). Ellis had another great season in 1969, catching 67 passes for 1,184 yards and nine touchdowns. He helped the Steelers win their first Super Bowl in 1970.
Ellis was traded to the Redskins in 1971, where he helped the team win the NFC East in 1972. He retired from the NFL in 1975 and began a coaching career. Ellis was an assistant coach with the Redskins, Steelers, and Oakland Raiders before becoming the general manager of the Raiders in 1997. He held that position until 2002.
Ellis is considered one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection. Ellis was also a member of the NFL's 1960s All-Decade Team.
In addition to his football career, Ellis has been involved in numerous business ventures. He is the founder and president of Ellis Enterprises, a sports marketing and management company. Ellis is also a motivational speaker and author.
Ellis is married to his wife, Donna, and they have three children. He is a devoted Christian and is involved in several charitable organizations.
Ellis is a role model for young people and an inspiration to all who know him. He is a living legend and one of the most respected figures in the game of football.
