Rory Scannell




Rory Scannell is a writer of poetry, novels, and plays. He currently teaches at the University of Notre Dame. He's known for his book "The Irish Way: A Pocket Guide to Everything" and "The Science of Birds" which won the 2019 National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.
Scannell lived in Ireland as a Fulbright scholar. He has a PhD in comparative literature from Harvard University and an MFA from the University of Oregon.
Scannell's poems often grapple with political and social issues in humorous and surprising ways. He doesn't shy away from difficult subjects and has written about everything from his Irish childhood to the refugee crisis. A lot of his work focuses on Irish identity and culture, but with a fresh, 21st-century perspective.
