RTE Sports Awards 2024
Dia duit, a chairde! The night of nights for Irish sport is upon us, and as always, there are a few awards that are particularly intriguing. Here are a few of the most anticipated awards of the evening:
Sportsperson of the Year
This is the big one, the award that everyone wants to win. The nominees for this year's award are:
* Katie Taylor (boxing)
* Leona Maguire (golf)
* Paul O'Donovan (rowing)
* Róisín Ní Riain (athletics)
All four athletes have had incredible years, so it's going to be a tough call to pick a winner. Katie Taylor is the current undisputed lightweight champion of the world, and she has won all of her fights in 2023. Leona Maguire is the first Irish woman to win a major golf championship, and she has also won several other tournaments this year. Paul O'Donovan is a double Olympic gold medalist in rowing, and he has also won the world championships this year. Róisín Ní Riain is a Paralympic medalist in athletics, and she has also won several other medals this year.
Team of the Year
This award is given to the team that has achieved the most success in the past year. The nominees for this year's award are:
* Ireland rugby team
* Ireland women's rugby team
* Ireland hockey team
* Ireland women's hockey team
All four teams have had successful years, so it's going to be a tough call to pick a winner. The Ireland rugby team won the Six Nations Championship and reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup. The Ireland women's rugby team won the Six Nations Championship and reached the semifinals of the World Cup. The Ireland hockey team won the EuroHockey Championships and reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup. The Ireland women's hockey team won the EuroHockey Championships and reached the semifinals of the World Cup.
Young Sportsperson of the Year
This award is given to the young athlete who has shown the most promise in the past year. The nominees for this year's award are:
* Sarah Healy (athletics)
* Cian Lynch (hurling)
* Aoife Doyle (camogie)
* Jack Casey (swimming)
All four athletes have had impressive years, so it's going to be a tough call to pick a winner. Sarah Healy is a European junior champion in athletics, and she has also won several other medals this year. Cian Lynch is a rising star in hurling, and he has helped his county to win the All-Ireland Championship this year. Aoife Doyle is a talented camogie player, and she has helped her county to win the All-Ireland Championship this year. Jack Casey is a talented swimmer, and he has won several medals at the European Junior Championships this year.
Manager of the Year
This award is given to the manager who has had the most success in the past year. The nominees for this year's award are:
* Andy Farrell (Ireland rugby team)
* Greg McWilliams (Ireland women's rugby team)
* Stephen Kenny (Ireland men's soccer team)
* Vera Pauw (Ireland women's soccer team)
All four managers have had successful years, so it's going to be a tough call to pick a winner. Andy Farrell has led the Ireland rugby team to victory in the Six Nations Championship and to the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Greg McWilliams has led the Ireland women's rugby team to victory in the Six Nations Championship and to the semifinals of the World Cup. Stephen Kenny has led the Ireland men's soccer team to victory in the Nations League and to the playoffs for the World Cup. Vera Pauw has led the Ireland women's soccer team to victory in the Pinatar Cup and to the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
