Ruto appoints

President William Ruto has appointed a number of individuals to key positions in his government. The appointments, which were announced in a gazette notice on Friday, include:

  • Nicholas Gumbo as the chairperson of the Kenya Sugar Board
  • Swarup Ranjan Mishra as the chairperson of the Kenya Biovax Institute Limited
  • Abdikadir Mohamed as the chairperson of the National Council for Population and Development
  • Ali Noor Ismail as the chairperson of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities
  • Patrick Osero as the chairperson of the Kenya Medical Research Institute
  • Michael Ngugi as the chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis
  • Phoebe Asiyo as the chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights

Ruto said that the appointments were made on the basis of merit and that he was confident that the individuals appointed would serve the country with distinction.

The appointments have been met with mixed reactions. Some have welcomed the appointments, saying that they are a sign that Ruto is committed to diversity and inclusion. Others have expressed concerns about the lack of women and youth in the appointments.

Ruto has defended the appointments, saying that he is committed to appointing the best people for the job, regardless of their gender or age.

The appointments are a sign that Ruto is wasting no time in putting his stamp on the government. It remains to be seen how the individuals appointed will perform in their new roles.
