Sean Burroughs is a former Major League Baseball player who played for the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Toronto Blue Jays.
Burroughs was born in 1971 in Lubbock, Texas. He was a standout baseball player in high school and was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 1989 Major League Baseball draft.
Burroughs made his Major League debut in 1994 with the Padres. He quickly became one of the team's best hitters, and in 1996 he was named to the National League All-Star team. Burroughs continued to play well for the Padres until he was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1999.
Burroughs played for the Devil Rays for two seasons before he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 2001. He played for the Reds for one season before he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2002. Burroughs played for the Phillies for two seasons before he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2004.
Burroughs played for the Blue Jays for one season before he retired from Major League Baseball in 2005. He finished his career with a .287 batting average, 190 home runs, and 750 RBIs.
After retiring from baseball, Burroughs worked as a coach and scout for the San Diego Padres. He is currently the hitting coach for the San Diego Padres' Triple-A affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas.
Burroughs is a two-time All-Star and was a member of the 1998 World Series champion San Diego Padres.
