Sean Cox was attacked by Roma fans on his way to the Champions League semi-final between Liverpool and Roma on 24 April 2018. The 55-year-old suffered a serious head injury, breaking his skull and fracturing a bone around his eye socket. He spent almost a year in a coma and many months more in rehab.
But Sean is now back on his feet and determined to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding next year.
In an interview with the Irish Independent, Sean said: "I'm doing great. I'm walking with a stick at the moment, but I'm getting stronger every day. I'm determined to walk my daughter down the aisle at her wedding next year."
Sean's wife Martina said: "It's been a long road, but we're getting there. Sean is making great progress and we're so proud of him."
The family have thanked the staff at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire for their care and support.
Sean's story is an inspiration to everyone who has suffered a serious injury.
He is a reminder that even after the most devastating events, it is possible to rebuild your life.
