SECRET GENIUS OF TRAVEL: Takoya Schattkowsky

By Joe Bradley
Takoya Schattkowsky is a travel enthusiast who has been exploring the world for over 20 years. He has visited over 80 countries on six continents and has a wealth of knowledge to share about his adventures.
In this special feature, we sat down with Takoya to get his insights on travel, his favorite destinations, and his tips for making the most of your next trip.
"I've always been fascinated by the world and its many cultures," Takoya began. "When I was a child, I would spend hours reading travel books and dreaming of all the places I would one day visit."
Takoya's first major trip was to Europe, when he was just 18 years old. He backpacked through 10 countries in three months, and he was hooked.
"That trip changed my life," he said. "I realized that there was so much more to the world than I had ever imagined. I was exposed to different cultures, different ways of life, and different perspectives. It opened my mind and gave me a new appreciation for the world we live in."
Since then, Takoya has continued to travel extensively. He has visited some of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, as well as some of the most off-the-beaten-path places. He has hiked through the Himalayas, trekked through the Amazon rainforest, and visited the ruins of ancient civilizations.
"I've had some amazing experiences along the way," Takoya said. "I've seen things that most people can only dream of. I've met people from all walks of life, learned about different cultures, and gained a new understanding of the world."
Takoya's favorite destination is a toss-up between Japan and Italy. "I love the food, the culture, and the history of both countries," he said. "I could easily spend months exploring each one."
When asked for his tips for making the most of your next trip, Takoya had this to say:
1. Do your research: "Before you go anywhere, take some time to learn about the culture, the customs, and the history of the place you're visiting. This will help you to avoid misunderstandings and to make the most of your experience."
2. Be open-minded: "When you're traveling, it's important to be open to new experiences and new ways of thinking. Don't be afraid to try new things, meet new people, and learn about different cultures."
3. Be respectful: "When you're traveling, it's important to be respectful of the local people and their culture. This means being mindful of your behavior, your language, and your dress. It also means being respectful of the environment."
4. Be adventurous: "Don't be afraid to get off the beaten path and explore places that most tourists don't go. This is where you'll find the most authentic experiences and the most memorable moments."
5. Be safe: "Always be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to stay safe. This means being aware of pickpockets, scams, and other potential dangers."
Takoya is a passionate advocate for travel, and he believes that everyone should experience the world for themselves.
"Travel is one of the most rewarding experiences in life," he said. "It opens your mind, broadens your horizons, and gives you a new appreciation for the world we live in."
