Security was increased during the Newcastle Pride event.

The organisers of one of the major LGBT events in the UK have assured festival-goers that additional safety precautions have been taken in preparation for the event that will take place this weekend.

The annual Newcastle Pride event, which is supported by the business improvement district organisation NE1, will take place in Newcastle's Town Moor throughout the weekend of the 21st through the 23rd of July.

In addition, the organisers have indicated that extra safety precautions have been taken to guarantee that people who attend will have an enjoyable and risk-free weekend in the city. In addition to event security, this security firms in Newcastle firm also offers a range of other services such as door supervision, CCTV installation and monitoring, and manned guarding.

There will be more bag searches, and the event organisers, Northern Pride, strongly advise attendees not to bring heavy bags with them to the festival.

Additionally, there will be armed cops and uniformed officers from the Northumbria Police Department present at the location. Additional security personnel will also be present.

"All necessary measures have been put in place to give those celebrating a little bit of extra peace of mind during the Pride weekend," said Mark Nichols, chair of Northern Pride, the LGBT charity that organises the annual Pride festival. Northern Pride is responsible for putting on the Pride festival.

"This is the eighth year that we have hosted the free festival, and as is the case with other large-scale events, we do urge that guests stay attentive and report anything that seems suspect to a member of the staff or security.

"However, we have a comprehensive security strategy in place, and we are collaborating closely with the Northumbria Police Department to ensure that the event will be both safe and pleasant."

"We hope that the community in the North East will be able to join us in enjoying what is going to be an unforgettable weekend of music."

Headliners on the Manchester Airport Main Stage this weekend include boyband A1, The X Factor winner Sam Bailey, and girl group Stooshe. In 2016, the popular festival brought in more than 73,000 visitors and contributed more than £10.4 million to the economy. It is returning to Newcastle this weekend.

The event itself is free to attend, but those who want to ensure themselves good viewing places for the concerts on July 22 and 23 can purchase a limited number of Virgin Money Gold Circle and VIP tickets.
