Serbia's dramatic wonder goal misses Slovenia a game they should have won

Serbia earned a dramatic draw.

Serbia drew 1-1 with Slovenia in their Euro 2024 Group C match at the Fusball-Arena München in Munich, Germany, on Tuesday (June 20).

Slovenia, who are making their first appearance at the Euros in 24 years, finished second in the group after a 1-1 draw against Denmark. Serbia, who lost 0-1 to England, drew 1-1 to move to 1-1 on the day.

The fourth match of Group C, Denmark-England, will likely reveal the contours of the standings.

Slovenia came out with a 4-4-2 formation. Oblak in goal, Janja, Biol, Drusic, Karnic, Mlakar, Elsnik, Gnezda Cherin, Stojanovic, Sesjko, and Šporar.

Serbia lined up in a 3-4-1-2 formation. Raikovic was in goal with the gloves. Pavlovic, Milenkovic, Velikovic, Mladenovic, Lukic, Ilic, Djivkovic, Tadić, Mitrovic, and Blahovic were in the starting lineup.

Slovenia were the aggressors from the start of the match. In the seventh minute, Mlakar had a shot blocked but looked to be the biggest threat.

From there, the game remained evenly matched with both teams trading offensive shots. Both teams had their best chances in the final minutes of the first half.

Slovenia took advantage of a momentary defensive lapse in the 37th minute when Elsnik's shot from inside the box bounced off the post. Sesjuko immediately followed up with a shot on goal, but it went wide of the target.

Serbia were also disappointed. In the 41st minute, Mitrovic had a shot from 먹튀검증 inside the box that was saved by Oblak.

The first half ended evenly matched. Serbia had a slight edge in ball possession (52%), but Slovenia held a slim 7-6 advantage in overall shots.

Slovenia came out aggressively in the second half. In the 13th minute, Sesjko had a great chance from mid-range but was denied by Raikovic.

In the 23rd minute of the second half, Slovenia, who had been knocking on the door for most of the game, took the lead. Karnicic led the counter-attack after breaking up a ball in the box and crossed the ball into the box. After a quick overlap, Karnicic eventually finished the low cross himself, rattling the net.

Three minutes later, Serbia created a great chance of their own, but couldn't finish. Mitrovic's right-footed shot from a through ball was deflected off the foot of defender Karnic and onto the post.

Serbia also tried to chase the game until the end. They earned free kicks and kept looking at the goal, but the Slovenian defense was solid. Every time they got close to the goal, Slovenia cleared the ball away, preventing them from finishing.

However, Serbia's refusal to give up until the very end led to some late drama. With five minutes of added time, Serbia had virtually their last chance to attack and won a corner, where Jovic headed the ball home to tie the game in dramatic fashion.
