As an NHS cleaner, I'm used to working long and tiring shifts. But even for me, the past few months have been especially tough. Since the start of the pandemic, I've been working harder than ever before. I'm constantly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, and I'm often working overtime to keep up with the demand.
It's not just the physical toll that's taking its toll. The emotional toll is just as hard. I'm constantly worried about getting sick myself, or bringing the virus home to my family. I'm also worried about the patients I'm cleaning for. I know that they're already sick and vulnerable, and I don't want to make them any worse.
I'm not the only one who's struggling. My colleagues are all feeling the same way. We're all exhausted, both physically and emotionally. But we're all determined to keep going. We know that our work is essential, and we're not going to let anyone down.
I'm proud of the work that I do. I know that I'm making a difference in the fight against COVID-19. But I also know that I can't keep going at this pace forever. I need a break. I need some time to rest and recharge.
I'm not sure when I'll be able to take a break. But I know that I need one. And I know that I'm not the only one.
So, if you're an NHS cleaner, please know that you're not alone. We're all in this together. And we'll get through this together.
In the meantime, please be kind to yourself. Take some time for yourself each day to relax and de-stress. And don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
We're all in this together. And we'll get through this together.
