Sidney Crosby is a Canadian professional ice hockey player and captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). Widely considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time, Crosby has won three Stanley Cups, two Olympic gold medals, two World Championship gold medals, the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy twice, the Art Ross Trophy twice, the Conn Smythe Trophy, the Ted Lindsay Award, and the Hart Memorial Trophy.
Crosby was born in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, on August 7, 1987. He began playing hockey at the age of two and quickly rose through the ranks of minor hockey. At the age of 16, he was drafted first overall by the Rimouski Océanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Crosby spent two seasons with the Océanic, winning the QMJHL championship in 2005.
In 2005, Crosby was drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He made his NHL debut in the 2005–06 season and quickly became one of the league's top players. In his first season, he won the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's leading scorer and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.
