Social welfare Ireland Christmas Bonus

The Christmas Bonus is a once-off payment made to people getting a long-term social welfare payment in Ireland. The bonus is paid in December and is equal to 100% of your normal weekly payment. There is a minimum bonus amount of €20.

You do not need to apply for the Christmas Bonus. It will be paid automatically to your bank account or post office account on the week beginning 12 December 2023.

Who is eligible for the Christmas Bonus?

• You must be getting a long-term social welfare payment on the week ending 12 December 2023.
• You must have been getting the payment for at least 15 months.
• You must be living in Ireland on the week ending 12 December 2023.

How much is the Christmas Bonus?

The Christmas Bonus is equal to 100% of your normal weekly payment. The minimum bonus amount is €20.

When will the Christmas Bonus be paid?

The Christmas Bonus will be paid on the week beginning 12 December 2023.

What if I am getting more than one social welfare payment?

If you are getting more than one social welfare payment, you will only get one Christmas Bonus. The bonus will be paid on the highest payment you are getting.
