Most of us spent childhood holidays at the beach. Perhaps, our beach moments are one of the surviving memories we have during our childhood. And it is something that we can reminisce every time we go back to the sea.
In spite of the enjoyment brought by the ocean, there are still potential dangers lurking deep in the sea. Beach accidents happen anytime and anywhere and they tend to occur when you least expect it. Accidents such as drowning happen because people do not observe basic safety rules while in the beach. It would be best to have fun while keeping yourself safe in the water.
Lifeguards and surf rescue crews have responsibilities that should not be underestimated as they carry a task to protect and secure the life of every beach goers. Southbourne Surf Life Saving Club (SSLSC) is a group of voluntary beach lifesavers established to provide a safe and healthy community for Southbourne residents and visitors. They facilitate various activities for club members of all ages, inspiring people to get active, have fun, meet new friends and learn important lifesaving skills. Their elite members devote their free time to learn lifesaving skills and compete in various Life Saving Sports events.
Most of their members consist of Nippers – Junior Life Savers from age 7 to 12 years old who are trained to use various rescue equipment. Letting children join the club to become Nippers is a great way to get them fit and active while learning basic surf safety skills.
Lifesaving is one excellent activity to inspire, embolden and develop a child’s confidence, skills and knowledge in a beach environment. Aside from having fun and meeting new friends, they will become a well-trained individual in lifesaving and beach patrolling.
