Sports Personality of the Year




The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award is one of the most prestigious awards in British sport. It is awarded annually to the sportsperson who has achieved the most in the past year, as voted by a panel of sports journalists, broadcasters, and former winners.

The award was first presented in 1954, and has been won by some of the biggest names in British sport, including Sir Roger Bannister, Sir Chris Hoy, and Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill.

This year's award ceremony will take place on Sunday 17 December, and the winner will be announced live on BBC One.

The nominees for the 2023 award are:

  • Ronnie O'Sullivan (snooker)
  • Jake Wightman (athletics)
  • Tom Daley (diving)

The winner of the award will be decided by a public vote, which opens on 12 December.
