Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a country in South Asia and is a neighboring country of India. They first arrived in Australia in the early 19thcentury; they mainly came for occupations and for The Australian Gold Rush.

The main Sri Lankans were burghers which meant that they descended from a white or European culture.

Sri Lankans have many different varieties of cultures from Tamil to Buddhism or from Christianity to Islamic cultures.

Now, those cultures are spreading all around the world, Sri Lankan people hold a new year’s festival on April every year. Were they do fun races and games, and give out prizes. Though the most fantastic thing about is the dancing and the singing.

Though not everything was what you wanted it to be back 10 years or more ago in Sri Lanka. It was when the Tamil Tigers took over most villages in the very north of Sri Lanka. They terrorized villages and used them as a shield because the Sinhalese the opposition (Government) were trying to attack them and regain the land. Many lives were lost during this “WAR” in Sri Lanka. Fortunately, the war ended, kind of because some people still have commotion between Tamils and Sinhalese. Recently, things have stirred up a bit more with the community of Sri Lanka, because of the Church Easter Bombings this year in 2019.

There are about thousands of Sri Lankans, no matter what culture in Melbourne, Australia. Now the world is kind of a way BETTER PLACE. Mainly, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is a commonwealth country and now is competing in most sports. From Ceylon to Sri Lanka, Sri Lankans have achieved a lot mainly in cricket. ;)
