In a welcome piece of news, SSI recipients are set to receive additional checks soon. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will get two payments in November instead of the usual one.
This is due to a quirk in the calendar, where the first of the month falls on a weekend. As a result, the first payment will be made on Friday, November 1st, and the second payment will be made on Wednesday, November 29th.
This means that SSI recipients will receive a total of three checks in November: one for October, one for November, and one for December. This is great news for those who rely on SSI benefits, as it will provide them with some extra financial assistance during the holiday season.
The SSA also announced that the maximum SSI payment amount for 2025 will be $967 per month. This is an increase of $24 from the current maximum payment amount of $943.
The increase in the maximum SSI payment amount is due to the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). The COLA is based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). The CPI-W measures the change in prices for goods and services purchased by urban wage earners and clerical workers.
The COLA is applied to SSI benefits each year to ensure that recipients keep up with the rising cost of living. The 2025 COLA is the largest increase in SSI benefits since 1981.
