Tab Baldwin: The Kiwi Coach Who Conquered Philippine Basketball




Tab Baldwin, the American-born New Zealand basketball coach, has become a revered figure in Philippine basketball.

After leading the Ateneo Blue Eagles to five UAAP championships and the Gilas Pilipinas national team to unprecedented success, Baldwin has cemented his place as one of the greatest coaches in Philippine basketball history.

  • Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Baldwin began his coaching career in the United States before moving to New Zealand in 1988. He quickly made a name for himself, leading the Otago Nuggets to multiple championships and the New Zealand Breakers to their first NBL title in 2005.

    In 2009, Baldwin was appointed head coach of the Gilas Pilipinas national team. Under his guidance, Gilas won its first FIBA Asia Championship in 2013 and qualified for the FIBA World Cup for the first time in 36 years.
