Tan Chuan-Jin




Tan Chuan-Jin is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as the Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore since 2020. He is a member of the People's Action Party (PAP) and has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Marine Parade GRC since 2011.
Tan was born in Singapore on 11 January 1975. He was educated at Raffles Institution and the National University of Singapore, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree. After graduating, Tan worked as a lawyer in the Singapore Legal Service. He also served as a prosecutor in the Attorney-General's Chambers.
  • Tan entered politics in 2011 when he was elected as an MP for Marine Parade GRC.
  • He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for National Development in 2012.
  • In 2014, he was promoted to Senior Parliamentary Secretary for National Development and Social and Family Development.
  • In 2016, Tan was appointed Minister of State for National Development and Social and Family Development.
  • In 2018, he was appointed Minister for Social and Family Development.
  • In 2020, Tan was elected as the Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore.
  • Tan is married with three children. He is a keen sportsman and enjoys playing basketball and cycling. He is also a passionate advocate for social causes, particularly those related to children and families.
