The Dark Magic Of Scary Voodoo Dolls And Other Creepy Icons

Who hasn't felt the need for revenge on the deepest darkest level? The thought of having a creepy doll of someone who has wronged us? Stick pins in and the victim suffers without anybody being able to link it back to you. Maybe get a whole shelf full of scary voodoo dolls. Would the effect of dozens of pins in each one be magnified in their remote effect?

Voo doo comes in dozens of different forms. Dominican vudo, West African Vodun, New Orleans/Louisiana Voo doo and Haitian Voodoo are just a few examples. Just to make it more confusing, there are a number of religions practiced in Africa that people sometimes get confused with our perceptions of voo doo.

Dominican vudo is very complicated because, not only does it have an alternate name (Las 21 Divisiones), it also is broken down into three separate divisions. These are Taino spirits, who are related to the Indigenous American division; Fon and Ewe spirits, which belong to the African division; and French and Spanish spirits who, along with minor European spirits, the European division. It's almost as complicated as international soccer!

A lot of voo doos are part of syncretic religions. This means they are an amalgamation of more than one, and often completely contradictory, religions. Haitian voo doo has as its Supreme Creator a deity named Bondye. Bondye is too elite to mess around in human life himself; he leaves that to his loas. Followers of Haitain voo doo kiss up to their doas by presenting them with offerings and other gifts.

Louisiana voo doo, or New Orleans, is probably the form of voo doo with which we are mostly familiar. Another syncretic religion, it has a connection with Francophone and Catholic culture because of the creolization of the Atlantic slave trade. It was through New Orleans voo doo that the use of creepy dolls for sale originated.

West African vodun is practiced by Ewe people from Ghana, Togo and other countries. It is also practiced in Nigeria. It is different from other forms of voo doo that are syncretized with Christianity.

Non-believers scoff at voo doo and don't think that it has any genuine effect on its intended target. Users may or may not think that there is a cause and effect, but it does make them feel better. When you think about it, sticking a pin or several into a piece of cloth, wax, wood, modelling clay or whatever material is a way of dealing with feelings without damaging the relationship with the other person involved.

If you are going to make your own voo doo dolls, start out with something simple, like a cloth bag tied up to make arms and legs and ahead. Draw or sew on a face. If you want to get elaborate and have an accurate likeness of the victim, you can have a creepy doll maker do the job. Give them a few photographs of the victim and tell them to have some grisly fun.
