Anita Anand is a Canadian lawyer and politician who has served as the Minister of Transport and Internal Trade since 2024. She is the first woman of color to hold the position in Canada.

Anand was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia, in 1967. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen's University in 1989, a Bachelor of Laws degree from Dalhousie University in 1992, and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Toronto in 1996. She also studied at Wadham College, Oxford, as a Commonwealth Scholar.

After graduating from law school, Anand worked as a lawyer in Toronto. She specialized in corporate law and was a partner at the law firm Stikeman Elliott. Anand also served on the board of directors of several companies, including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the Canadian Council of Business Leaders Against Anti-Semitism.

Anand entered politics in 2019, when she was elected to the House of Commons as the Liberal Party of Canada candidate for the riding of Oakville. She was appointed Minister of Public Services and Procurement in 2019, and was promoted to Minister of Defense in 2021. Anand is currently the Minister of Transport and Internal Trade.

Anand is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion. She has spoken out against racism and sexism, and has worked to promote the rights of women and minorities.

Anand is a role model for young people, especially for girls and women of color. She shows that anything is possible if you have the drive and determination to succeed.
