The results of the 2024 Tidy Towns competition were announced today, with Ballincollig in Cork taking the top spot as Ireland's tidiest town.
The competition, which is organised by the Department of Rural and Community Development, encourages communities to improve their local environment and promote sustainable living.
This year, over 900 towns and villages entered the competition, with judges assessing them on criteria such as litter control, waste management, biodiversity, and community involvement.
Ballincollig was praised for its "exceptional" efforts in all areas, including its community-led initiatives to reduce waste and promote biodiversity.
Other top performers in the competition included Westport in Mayo, which was named Ireland's tidiest large town, and Ballyphehane in Cork, which was named Ireland's tidiest large urban centre.
The Tidy Towns competition has been running for over 60 years, and it has played a major role in improving the quality of life in communities across Ireland.
The competition has also helped to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection, and it has encouraged communities to work together to create a more sustainable future.
