Tony Book: A Man City Legend




Tony Book, the former Manchester City captain and manager, passed away on 13th January 2025, at the age of 90. Book was one of the most successful players in the club's golden era of the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was a key member of the team that won the 1969 FA Cup and the 1970 League Cup.
Book was born in Bath, England, on 4th September 1934. He began his career with his hometown club, Bath City, before joining Plymouth Argyle in 1959. He moved to Manchester City in 1965 and quickly established himself as a key member of the team.
Book was a versatile defender who could play at right-back, left-back, or center-back. He was a tough tackler and a good passer of the ball. He was also a leader on and off the pitch.
Book was appointed captain of Manchester City in 1968. He led the team to victory in the 1969 FA Cup, the club's first major trophy in 11 years. He also led the team to victory in the 1970 League Cup.
Book retired from playing in 1974. He became manager of Manchester City in 1979 and led the team to victory in the 1981 League Cup. He was sacked as manager in 1983.
Book was a true legend of Manchester City. He was a great player and a great manager. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
