C. William 'Bill' List, A Retired Printing Executive And Longtime Referee, Dies

Brought into the world in Baltimore and brought up in Waverly on 39th Street, he was the child of Eleanor K. Rogers, a homemaker. He was raised by his mom and stepfather, John K. Rogers, a sales rep and entrepreneur.

He was a 1949 Baltimore Polytechnic Institute graduate and served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He went to Officers Candidate School at Fort Ord in California.

"He changed professions when he was in his 40s," said his child James. "He met Jerry Eickenberg, whose family claimed a printing organization. They were all bowling together in a duckpin association and Jerry knew what an incredible sales rep my dad was. He recruited him."

Mr. List was given a couple of fundamental records and he got back home around evening time with a heap of books and concentrated on the printing industry.

He was a sales rep at Eickenberg Printing, AdCrafters, John D. Lucas, and his own firm, Ink on Pape Inc., which he established in 1996. He sold the business in 2019.

Mr. List instructed his children's ball club at the Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council, and when requested to be an umpire, he concurred.

"Pop was not one to lounge around and watch," said his child William. "He was not enormous a person but rather he had endurance."

He later started refereeing swim meets. He joined the Maryland Officials Club and directed at swim meets for almost 50 years.

Mr. List refereed 26 Army-Navy meets, 46 gathering titles, and furthermore refereed for Johns Hopkins, Loyola University Maryland and Towson University.

"He was glad for being a decent authority," said his child James. "He was understanding about more youthful swimmers when there may be 15 or 20 swimming in a pool, all students, attempting to contend.
