One could figure Declan McCarthy would have had a few butterflies as he put on his uniform, had contemplations skipping around his head during the transport ride to Paulsboro on Saturday morning.

The thing is, the point at which you've gotten your work done and dealt with the psychological arrangement, once in a while those butterflies stay concealed and you simply go out and execute the blueprint.

"He was ready for the occasion," Haddonfield mentor Frank DeLano said. "He's been running our offense since he was six."

McCarthy seemed to be a carefully prepared veteran as the safeguarding South/Central Group 2 heroes started off their 2022 mission. The lesser finished his initial nine passes, which included three scores, and got done with five all out scores as Haddonfield ruined Kevin Harvey's head training debut with a 44-26 triumph in West Jersey Football League activity.

The 6-foot-2, 231-pound signal guest was 16-of-19 passing for 248 yards and four scores - tosses of 15, 14, 29 and 20 yards generally coming in the main half. He added a 7-yard TD run with a little more than four minuets left in the second from last quarter.

"The line closed their butts off, the fullbacks closed their butts off. The backs gave all their work, wideouts gave all their work. It was a collaboration," McCarthy said.

"It's not difficult to be quiet when you have a line you trust and backs you trust. I was feeling better, thought it'd be a decent game."

McCarthy saw restricted activity at quarterback last season, taking snaps against Willingboro and Woodrow Wilson (presently Camden Eastside). Yet, subsequent to beginning the season 2-2, DeLano went with Carson Wolff as the beginning quarterback, passing on McCarthy to concentrate on protection.

Yet, that QB attitude remained in his blood. He spent the offseason planning to be the following man up, working on his snappiness, strength and molding.

"Last year, Carson was the best person for the group," DeLano said. "(McCarthy) dealt with it maturely, yet he's been prepared for this since he's been in our childhood program since he was six years of age.

"We had a great seven day stretch of prep. We watched tape together, he figures out tape. … I didn't think the stage would have been too huge. Did I suppose he'd emerge and toss four score passes in the main half? Hell no, yet he's a victor and has forever been a champ."

Except for a pass he constrained a little, which was blocked and returned for a score, McCarthy was ready and taken care of. He was all that a mentor needs in a QB.

"Just development. I've developed as a quarterback, filled in knowledge. I'm ready to peruse a safeguard all the more now, I pursue choices quicker," he said. "I just bettered my game.

"I realized I had some work today, and I came and did it."
