NEW YORK — Nearly 30,000 sprinters will hit the roads for the New York City Marathon on Sunday. Among them is Utah Olympian Jared Ward, who completed 6th in the long distance race at the Rio Games in 2016.
The NYC Marathon went virtual in 2020 because of the pandemic. Ward said having this race back on signals that the world is fully recovering.
"To place 30,000 sprinters in the city in New York City, this is a major advance for the world turning the correct bearing post-COVID," Ward said.
The 33-year-old has run the renowned long distance race four years straight and said the energy in the city is dissimilar to elsewhere on the planet.
"The boisterous thunder from the groups is stunning. In any event, pondering it now — it gives me chills," he said. "You go through the five wards, every district has novel difficulties yet there is interesting groups in every precinct that bring you through those."
Ward has been in the Big Apple since Wednesday doing question and answer sessions and equipping to run the 26.2-mile race Sunday — a day carrying huge number of individuals to the city, which only a year sooner was the focal point of the nation's pandemic. Furthermore, albeit the race is on this year, there will be some recognizable changes.
"We are beginning somewhat prior with the goal that we can stun the waves and spread individuals out only a tad nibbled more. Yet, it's as yet it's 30,000 individuals on a beginning line," he said.
His family, spouse and five youngsters will be supporting him in the groups and hanging tight for him toward the end goal in Central Park.
