On how he came to know Tom Morey as a figure of the riding scene, and later as a mentor

MIKE STEWART: He was exceptionally innovative, very receptive, and simply a hurricane of thoughts and ideas. Furthermore, my first gathering with him truly sort of exemplified what his identity was. I could perceive immediately this person was really imaginative. Also, really, it was a major impetus in my own creative brain, I presume. I was somewhat into exactly the same things like, you know, simply the thoughts of improving things, and so on So I didn't know him that well at first. I found a new line of work. I strolled in, I realized he was visiting the area and I was super into riding the boog. Also, accordingly, I'm similar to, "Goodness, this person is the genuine creator here." So I chose, "Amazing, it'd be astonishing if I would attempt to meet this person." It resembles you get into it, and it turns out to be important for your being, you know, simply that stir up of riding the waves. Thus I searched him out, tracked down him and requested a task. He gave me a task tidying up the shop at first. And afterward ultimately I was welcomed higher up where every one of the insane thoughts were in his innovative work place. Also, the relationship began there — and only sort of continued to develop since the time then, at that point. At that point, my dad wasn't with us. Thus he turned out to be just about a caring figure too. So he sort of encouraged me, and he turned into my hānai father. So that was cool. You know, indeed, at our gathering for my significant other and I, they asked anybody liable for raising Mike, kindly stand up — and Tom stood up. He was the primary person to stand up and I'm similar to, "Better believe it, that is proper."

It was a sort of a fortunate situation. There would have been a plaque that should have been raised at Waiʻaha Park, which is Honl's break. It was an initiation for the innovation of the bodyboard and Tom's commitment to surfing truly. Furthermore, that planned to occur notwithstanding. Thus Tom, you know, sadly, has passed thus we figured we'd simply time it all together and wound up making an incredible festival for what he's done, his heritage. It would really turn into an exceptionally excellent day, similar to it was a lovely day, regardless, and afterward chance would have it there was a long distance race continuing. So then, at that point, we thought, "We're not going to have the option to get to the ocean side." But what wound up happening is it just cut the traffic down. So when they did the serenade toward the beginning of the day, the supplication, it was clear, you know, there was no vehicles passing by, it was truly great. So this multitude of things worked out so it became like a genuine unique day. A many individuals that have been truly moved by the game, you know, appeared and upheld it. Furthermore, you know, I don't figure Tom might have envisioned for a superior farewell.
