Club Olympia trio swims in southern California meet
Three Club Olympia athletes competed last weekend in a four-day meet hosted by The Swim Team (TST) Barracudas at El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California.
Josh Pendleton, Tony Machavariani and Shreyan Kulkarni met the meet’s high time standards and were able to compete against some of California’s and the Western United States’ best age group swimmers in the International Swim Coaches Association’s (ISCA) West Coast Elite Showcase Classic. TST Barracudas is the team where Columbus resident Brady Beyer currently is training.
The three Club Olympia athletes performed well enough in the four days of prelims and finals events to finish seventh in the men’s standings and 12th in the team standings among nearly 30 clubs from both southern and northern California, Hawaii, Colorado and Missouri.
Pendleton scored 99 points while winning nine of hist 10 events, including the the 100 freestyle (where he is currently the 26th ranked 11-year-old in the country), 200 freestyle (sixth), 500 freestyle (second), 1000 freestyle (second), 200 individual medley (25th), 400 IM (43rd), 50 butterfly (59th), 100 butterfly (21st) and 200 butterfly (17th). Pendleton swam several personal-best times throughout the weekend and was the 11-year-old High Point winner.
