Before the carpool path opens, Caltrans will close the northward two remaining paths from Alondra to the 605 Freeway from 11 p.M. Thursday, Feb. 10 until 5 a.M. Friday, Feb. 11 to stripe the new northward carpool path.
Still to be opened will be the carpool path on the northward side from the Orange County boundary to Alondra and the whole opposite side.
"This is huge," said Santa Fe Springs Public Works Director Noe Negrete. "It's nearer to the end and the local area will see the value in the additional path."
Under the extending project started in 2011, one standard path and a carpool path are being added to the interstate, making for five paths on each side. There are six sections in the undertaking, everything except the Valley View Avenue are for the most part total.
"It's very much past due," Norwalk Mayor Rick Ramirez, who serves on the I-5 Consortium Cities Joint Powers Authority that addresses the urban communities of Commerce, Downey, La Mirada, Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs. It was shaped in 1991 to address the urban communities in pushing for the broadening and guaranteeing the state considered their inclinations.
