Ursula von der Leyen

The Unremarkable Rise of Ursula von der Leyen
By an Embittered Greek

As a Greek citizen, I've witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the European Union's austerity measures. And I've come to believe that Ursula von der Leyen, the EU's current president, is a symbol of everything that's wrong with the organization.

Von der Leyen is a career politician who has never held an elected office. She was handpicked by Angela Merkel to lead the EU Commission, and her appointment was widely seen as a reward for her loyalty to the German chancellor.

Since taking office, von der Leyen has done little to address the concerns of ordinary Europeans. Instead, she's focused on implementing the EU's neoliberal agenda, which has led to widespread poverty and inequality.

Von der Leyen is a staunch supporter of austerity measures, which she believes are necessary to reduce the EU's debt. But these measures have had a devastating impact on Greece. Our economy has shrunk by a quarter, and unemployment is at record highs.

Von der Leyen is also a strong advocate for free trade, which she believes will benefit all Europeans. But in reality, free trade agreements have only served to benefit large corporations at the expense of small businesses and workers.

I believe that Ursula von der Leyen is a dangerous woman. She is out of touch with the needs of ordinary Europeans, and she is determined to impose her neoliberal agenda on the entire EU.

I urge you to vote against Ursula von der Leyen in the next European elections. We need a leader who will put the interests of the people first, not the interests of big business.

Here are some specific examples of how Ursula von der Leyen's policies have harmed Greece:
  • Austerity measures have led to cuts in public spending, which has resulted in widespread poverty and inequality.
  • Free trade agreements have led to the loss of jobs in Greece, as businesses have moved to countries with lower wages.
  • Von der Leyen's support for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) would have given corporations the power to sue governments that passed laws protecting the environment or workers' rights.
I believe that Ursula von der Leyen is a threat to democracy. She is a servant of the rich and powerful, and she has no interest in the concerns of ordinary people.

We need to vote her out of office and replace her with a leader who will put the interests of the people first.

Only then can we begin to rebuild our broken societies.
