Working as a nurse is not a cakewalk; you have to make countless sacrifices, work overtime, and witness the highs and lows of life. Vatiswa Ndara, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in South Africa, has been hard at work since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, working tirelessly to give patients the best care possible.
Ndara's journey began in 2017, when she graduated from CPUT (Cape Peninsula University of Technology) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After working at Groote Schuur and Somerset hospitals, she settled as a staff nurse at Victoria in 2020.
"I saw the impact of the pandemic on patients and their families. I believe it was important for me to be there to provide care, love, and dignity to those who needed it most," said Ndara.
Being a nurse is not an easy task, especially during these trying times, but Ndara always keeps her motivation in check by remembering her dream of becoming a nurse.
"Nursing is not a job for everyone. You need to have a passion for helping people, and you need to be willing to work long hours," said Ndara. "It's more than just giving medication or taking blood; it's about caring for the whole person."
Despite being overworked, Ndara still finds time to volunteer at a soup kitchen and a homeless shelter. "I see my volunteer work as an extension of my work as a nurse,"她说。 "I want to help those less fortunate than myself and make a difference in the world."
Ndara is an inspiration to all nurses, and her dedication to her work is truly commendable. She is a shining example of what it means to be a nurse and is a true asset to Victoria Hospital.
