Kamala Harris has made history as the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to serve as Vice President of the United States.

Her journey to the White House has been a remarkable one, marked by perseverance, intelligence, and a deep commitment to public service.

Born in Oakland, California in 1964, Harris grew up in a family of activists and civil rights leaders. Her parents, Shyamala Gopalan and Donald Harris, instilled in her a strong sense of justice and equality from a young age.

Harris attended Howard University, a historically Black college in Washington, D.C., where she studied political science and economics. She went on to earn her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

After graduating from law school, Harris began her career as a prosecutor in Alameda County, California. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the District Attorney of San Francisco in 2004.

As District Attorney, Harris focused on criminal justice reform and reducing recidivism rates. She implemented innovative programs, such as the "Back on Track" initiative, which provided job training and support services to formerly incarcerated people.

In 2010, Harris was elected as California's Attorney General. In this role, she continued to champion criminal justice reform and fought for the rights of immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community.

Harris was elected to the United States Senate in 2016. She quickly became a prominent voice on issues such as healthcare, climate change, and economic inequality.

In 2020, Harris made history once again when she was selected as Joe Biden's running mate. The Biden-Harris ticket went on to win the election, making Harris the first woman Vice President in American history.

As Vice President, Harris has remained a vocal advocate for justice, equality, and progress. She has travelled the country, speaking out on issues such as voting rights, reproductive rights, and gun violence prevention.

Harris is a role model for women and girls of color everywhere. Her story is a testament to the power of determination, hard work, and the belief that anything is possible.
