An Introduction to Nanotechnology

To really understand how important nanotechnology will be we have to really understand the nano-scale. If you could shrink yourself to around 1500 times smaller than you are now you would find yourself in an alien world, at this size there would not be anything that you would recognize, no longer would there be any furniture and there would be no wood, plastics or cloth, at least not in any form you would recognize.

Everything you would see would consist of its constituent elements, the atoms themselves. Everything around you would be constructed from just atoms. Just like the molecular models you may have played with in your science classes at school. Now with nanotechnology imagine you have the power to arrange those atoms into any arrangement that you can to begin building items you need. You can now build all kinds of fantastic items from new medicines and superfast computer chips. Nanotechnology is one of the fastest growing and most exciting areas of scientific research today.
