When are German elections

German elections are held every four years on the last Sunday in September. The next federal election will be held on September 24, 2021.
The German electoral system is a mixed-member proportional representation system. This means that half of the members of the Bundestag (the German parliament) are elected from single-member constituencies, and the other half are elected from party lists.
To vote in the German federal election, you must be at least 18 years old and a German citizen.
In the 2017 federal election, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) won the most seats in the Bundestag, followed by the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Alternative for Germany (AfD), the Free Democratic Party (FDP), and The Left (Die Linke).
The CDU and SPD have formed a coalition government since 2013.
The German electoral system is designed to produce stable governments. This is because it is difficult for any one party to win a majority of seats in the Bundestag. As a result, most German governments are formed by coalitions of two or more parties.
The German electoral system is also designed to ensure that all parts of the country are represented in the Bundestag. This is because the single-member constituencies are spread throughout the country.
The German electoral system is a complex one, but it is designed to produce stable and representative governments.
