Who is leading in Edo State governorship election

As results trickle in from various polling units across Edo State, the race for the governorship seat appears to be a close one between the two leading candidates, Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the time of this writing, around 10 pm on Election Day, results from over 100 polling units had been counted, and Obaseki held a slim lead over Ize-Iyamu. However, with many more polling units yet to report their results, it is too early to say definitively who is in the lead.

The election has been largely peaceful, but there have been some reports of irregularities, including allegations of vote-buying and intimidation of voters. INEC has said it is investigating these allegations.

The Edo State governorship election is considered a crucial test for both the PDP and the APC. A victory for Obaseki would give the PDP control of one of the few APC-controlled states in southern Nigeria, while a victory for Ize-Iyamu would boost the APC's hopes of regaining control of the state in the 2023 general elections.

The final results of the election are expected to be announced by INEC in the coming days.
