Xavier Coates




Xavier Coates is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays on the wing for the Melbourne Storm in the NRL. A Queensland State of Origin representative, he has also represented the Prime Minister's XIII and the Junior Kangaroos.
Coates was born in Townsville, Queensland, and played his junior rugby league for the Townsville Brothers. He moved to Brisbane in 2017 to attend St Peter's Lutheran College, and played for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls in the Queensland Cup. In 2019, he signed a contract with the Brisbane Broncos, and made his NRL debut in 2020.
Coates had a breakout season in 2021, scoring 17 tries in 20 games. He was named in the NRL Team of the Year, and was awarded the Ken Irvine Medal as the Broncos' Player of the Year.
In 2022, Coates signed a three-year contract with the Melbourne Storm. He made his Storm debut in Round 1, and scored a try in the Storm's 20-16 win over the Penrith Panthers.
