A Zamboni driver for the St. Louis Blues died after suffering a seizure while driving the ice-resurfacing machine at Enterprise Center on Sunday morning.
Kyle "Red" Watson, who was 29-year-old, died after being taken to a local hospital.
The Blues canceled their morning skate and a pregame practice before facing the Maple Leafs at home.
The Blues released a statement saying, "The team is deeply saddened by the passing of Kyle Watson and extends its condolences to Kyle's family and friends."
It added: "He was a dedicated and passionate member of the Blues organization and will be remembered for his infectious smile and hard work."
Zamboni drivers are an essential part of the hockey game experience, as the ice-resurfacing machine smooths the ice surface during breaks in play.
